Conclusion
This experiment perfectly demonstrated the process of an oil spill. There was a simulation of a crude oil spill produced in a washbasin and we were allowed limited materials to contain and absorb the oil, cleaning it up the best we can. The dish soap was a cleaning product that was very successful in containing the oil. On a larger scale, if the dish soap was multiplied by how much more larger the actual spill was, it could make quite an impact. The sponge, being the best material to absorb the oil, can be used to absorb the oil in a real oil spill. My hypothesis was partly supported. The dish soap and the sponge did contain and absorb the oil the best, but the percentages I hypothesized was smaller than the estimated percentage in my final results. The dish soap contained 75% of all the oil and the sponge absorbed 70% of the oil. The total amounts that I hypothesized were 80% contained and 85% absorbed, while my results showed 100% contained and 98% absorbed.
